Job Description
Role & responsibilities
A DevOps Engineer with Java expertise plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between software development and operations teams, ensuring seamless integration, deployment, and delivery of Java-based applications. This position requires a skilled individual with expertise in Java development and a strong understanding of DevOps principles, automation, and tools. The DevOps Engineer will collaborate with development, operations, and QA teams to streamline the software delivery pipeline, automate infrastructure provisioning, and enhance system reliability and scalability.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Infrastructure Automation:
- Design, implement, and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation to automate provisioning, configuration, and management of cloud resources.
- Develop and maintain deployment scripts, configuration files, and templates to ensure consistency and repeatability across environments.
2. Continuous Integration and Deployment (CI/CD):
- Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or CircleCI to automate build, test, and deployment processes for Java applications.
- Configure and manage automated testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit, TestNG) and code quality tools (e.g., SonarQube) to enforce quality gates and ensure code reliability.
3. Containerization and Orchestration:
- Containerize Java applications using Docker and orchestrate containerized workloads using Kubernetes or Docker Swarm for efficient deployment, scaling, and management.
- Optimize container images, Dockerfiles, and Kubernetes manifests for performance, resource utilization, and security.
4. Monitoring and Logging:
- Set up and configure monitoring and logging solutions (e.g., Prometheus, ELK Stack) to monitor system metrics, application performance, and log files for proactive issue detection and troubleshooting.
- Implement alerting mechanisms and dashboards to provide real-time visibility into system health and performance.
5. Security and Compliance:
- Implement security best practices and compliance standards (e.g., OWASP, CIS benchmarks) throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC) to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of Java applications and infrastructure.
- Perform vulnerability assessments, code reviews, and security audits to identify and mitigate security risks and vulnerabilities.
6. Collaboration and Documentation:
- Collaborate with development, operations, and QA teams to streamline processes, resolve issues, and improve overall efficiency and productivity.
- Document infrastructure configurations, deployment procedures, and troubleshooting steps to facilitate knowledge sharing and onboarding of new team members.
Preferred candidate profile
- Relevant certifications in DevOps and Java programming are advantageous.
- Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer or similar role with hands-on experience in Java development and deployment.
- Proficiency in Java programming language, including Java EE or Spring frameworks, with a strong understanding of object-oriented principles and design patterns.
- Experience with DevOps tools and technologies, including CI/CD pipelines, version control systems (e.g., Git), configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible), and containerization platforms (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Strong scripting skills in Shell, Python, or Groovy for automation and infrastructure orchestration.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and their respective services for infrastructure provisioning and management.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues in distributed systems.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced, agile environment.
Additional Requirements:
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies, DevOps practices, and software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes.
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Jaeger) and their integration with Java applications.
- Experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) in a DevOps context.
- Continuous learning mindset and willingness to stay updated with emerging technologies and best practices in DevOps and Java development.
