Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Work with Engineering Services team members to ensure all engineering work is compliant with design drawings, specifications, and applicable codes and standards; analyze to verify there are no conflicts between disciplines. All projects must be fit-for-purpose.
  • Oversee the development of engineering scopes throughout the varying phases of the project life cycle, including the corresponding budgets, effort estimates, and schedules.
  • Development of engineering execution strategies, defining responsibilities of the varying resources (internal and external) in the completion of the work
  • Compilation and coordination of engineering scope packages to support the bidding of engineering services to external providers
  • Review submitted proposals by external providers and make a recommendation to business leadership on the preferred provider for the work
  • Work with Engineering Services discipline and quality assurance leads to ensure compliance of design work with plans and specifications.
  • Lead and participate in technical review meetings, projects, and design reviews. Oversee the preparation of calculations, engineering design drawings, technical reports, specifications, and effort/material take-off estimates.
  • Hold internal and or external engineering resources accountable to engineering deliverable effort, cost, quality, and schedule commitments
  • Liaison with engineering disciplines, project managers, and business unit operations / technical stakeholders for schedule requirements and resolution of technical issues.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Engineering Managers to identify any issues with compliance, execution, risk management frameworks, and project close-out requirements.
  • Oversee engineering support during the construction phase.
  • Coordinate the updating of on-site as-built drawings. Identify and communicate changes to affected stakeholders.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Enjoy working in an innovative, fast-paced, and dynamic multi-disciplinary engineering environment.
  • Strong ability to communicate, in writing, and verbally, through various Microsoft tools: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams.
  • Disciplined documentation practices; write technical documentation and reports; work with the Documentation Team to ensure the most recent information, e.g. as-built drawings, revised technical specifications, are sent to them.
  • Able to articulate technical concepts and other project information in a clear, concise way.
  • Able to make decisions based on sound business judgment and engineering requirements.
  • Able to influence without authority.
  • Ability to stay within budget and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills to be proactive in identifying risk and solving problems.
  • This position will require you to be in the field periodically so you must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, and climb heights while wearing all required PPE.

Travel

  • Occasional travel may be required.

Education and experience

  • University degree in engineering any discipline.
  • Knowledge of complex engineering concepts, practices, and procedures; including the interdependencies/responsibilities of the varying design engineering disciplines.
  • Minimum 8 years of engineering experience on capital projects in the oil and gas, power, or heavy industry sectors.
  • Experience working in engineering design using AutoCAD, MicroStation an asset.
  • Experience overseeing or managing other aspects of project execution materials management, contracts management, construction management/field engineering, commissioning is an asset.
  • P.Eng. designation is an asset.
  • PMP or other project management designation is an asset.
