Job Description
Responsibilities Responsible for the overall design/engineering/technical aspects of Jacobs projects. Works with: Designated Project Executives (DPE), Executive Director of Operations (EDO), Directors of Operations, Section Leaders, Sales, other staff Promote a culture of safety and quality to achieve best in class status within the market sector. Works with Project Manager to build the right team for the project identifying right people/roles/resource levels for design requirements Manages all discipline/design team leaders Manages resources/team management o Virtual/Local o Move people on and off project Integrates disciplines/teams across project Directs outputs from design process May need to manage 3rd party reviewers and independent verifiers Works with PM and others to understand client requirements for project Manages/makes design decisions based on client requirements (and records all design decisions/agreements with client/JV partner on an ongoing basis). Manages technical relationships with client Maintains design change records and manages variations process Identifies project opportunities and works with Sales Team to reach partnering agreements and develop pursuit plans Manages priorities for delivering design Supports discipline/design team leaders to make design decisions Delivery to program: Balances competing requirements on project to deliver design outcome (e.g. cost v. time v. quality) Determines when team should stop considering design options and start documenting design Issue documentation, oversee document control management Approve design documentation for issue. Ensures caveats are noted where design documentation is not a full specification (e.g. have not been through a full external review process with end client) Provides Design and programme input into overall PM Plan Accountable for project s Quality Plan If project is large enough for separate Design Management Plan, accountable for content and implementation of this plan Management of responsibility using Jacobs systems; work breakdown; task; resourcing, risk, safety in design Work with Section Leaders to forecast and manage resourcing across our portfolios and projects Accountable for quality of design on project Manages content and delivery of Quality Plan for project Ensures that reliable evidence of comprehensive checking of deliverables is available when documents are issued for construction Manages review process and approval of design documentation Defines design criteria/specifications; defines operational requirements that Design is required to comply with Determines appropriate participants for review of design documentation Understand and apply all technical standards to design solutions Manages Safety in Design process on projects (with Client or JV partner as required) Manages Risk Management process on projects (with Client or JV partner as required) Ensures that appropriate sustainability considerations are made in the preparation of the design documentation Understand commercial aspects of project (if not in direct control) Participate in setting project budget/financials and managing these Demonstrates behaviours consistent with Jacobs Values Aligns team with Jacobs Values.
