Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
1. Receive test samples from in patients and out patients
2. Check accuracy of requisition form
3. Verify the requisition slip for signature of the doctor/nurse
4. Prepare and reassure patient for sample collection
5. Prepare labels for tubes and slides if required
6. Follow strict aseptic techniques while handling samples
7. Instruct patient on aseptic way of collection of samples for microbiology investigation
8. Ensure proper transportation of samples
9. Examine of samples/procedures as per the standards
10. Prepare staining of smears
11. Prepare media to conduct routine tests
12. Test and report samples accurately
13. Assess the abnormal results, repeat, reconfirm and check with previous results
14. Inform the concerned consultant & in charge nurse about abnormal results
15. Process the samples and dispatch the reports as per the schedule.
16. Give priority to emergency cases and inform the results as early as possible with acknowledgement
17. Document the results in respective registers
18. Highlight all abnormal values
19. Dispatch reports in time after authorization by the respective department consultants
20. Take proper acknowledgement after dispatch
21. Clean and sterilize lab equipment, glassware and instruments
22. Maintain hygiene in the work area
23. Ensure the temperature of room, refrigerator and incubator as per standard
24. Maintain equipment's as per protocol
25. Prepare daily statistics
26. Ensure compliance with laboratory safety practices and bio medical waste management practices
27. Coordinate and cooperate with other departments
28. Maintain good inter personal relations
29. Maintain proper dress code, discipline & punctuality
30. Report all the relevant issues to in charge technicians/department consultants
31. Attend training programs and education programs
32. Ensure proper handover of work
Technician Skills
1. Knowledge about clinical lab methods
2. Computer skills
3. Working knowledge of MS Office
Qualification
1. DMLT
2. B. Sc - MLT
