Job Description
The Director, Software Engineering will provide engineering management and leadership to the Engineering Teams of the Time Domain Business Unit (TDBU) based in India. The position will report to India R&D leader. The incumbent will be responsible for executing R&D strategies and activities to assure alignment with business objectives. For the ideal candidate this is a unique opportunity to work in a multi-cultural, multi-site and dynamic environment giving him/her the opportunity to significantly influence the company s product development. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The incumbent will be responsible for all product development and sustaining activities for software product offerings within the BU. The incumbent will lead the activities of software product development, quality of software applications and project management. In this role he/she will use his/her expertise to direct product design, developing plans to accomplish goals, leading the integration of technical activities, analyzing technology, resource needs, and customer demand to assess the feasibility of projects. Business & Financial Management- Position works closely with all Engineering teams, Product Marketing and Sales to produce outstanding results on a regular basis
- The incumbent is responsible for supporting FBS (Fortive Business systems) tools deployment and usage
- Lead and manage the new/enhancement of software applications using FSS (Fortive Software Systems)
- Manage the Innovation to Execution (I2E) process improvements specific to software development
- Assess current development team on metrics such as quality, the product roadmap and historical project delivery, FSS process outcomes and other relevant metrics
- Deploy a world-class development team that achieves product roadmap objectives on time, with high quality and on budget
- Own and drive Agile software development process, delivering superior business results through a consistent stream of on time, high quality software releases and products
- Provide hands-on systems design experience and strong knowledge of general engineering best practices
- Responsible for attracting and developing talent in a manner which meets the current and future needs of the business
- Build strong leadership pipeline in Engineering management, technology and architecture
- Championing the Company s culture and core values (Building Extraordinary Team, Customer success and Innovation, continuous improvement/Kaizen and Shareholder value addition)
- Bachelor s/ Master s degree in Engineering (Electronics & Electrical or Computer Science) or equivalent qualification
- 18+ years of experience in the Research and Development function with 10+ years of leadership experience and a minimum of ten years of experience in a software product development organization is essential
- Experience as a leader of leader for 5 years
- Extensive experience in all phases of software product development, project management and strategic planning preferably in related areas
- Ten years of experience in areas related to:
- Leading a team of global engineering to deliver their best by understanding and managing cross cultural differences
- Generating new growth breakthrough opportunities through solution development
- Managing an engineering team to balance sustaining engineering, custom engineering support and new platform development
- Test & Measurement market knowledge would be an added advantage
- Experience and understanding of how software product development engineering fits in overall business (quality, manufacturing, supply chain, sales, marketing)
- Proven experience in driving large, custom software engineering solutions through Agile development process with periodic reviews and buy-in from key stakeholders (internal and external)
- Demonstrated experience in working with US based teams is a requirement. Candidates having an international onsite leadership experience will be an added advantage
- Travel is required, including visits to key customers, sales and engineering teams
