Job Description
Summary
Drives initiatives to improve the effectiveness of the Engineering function and interfaces with other functions to provide effective coordination of metrics, dashboards, functional processes, and cross-functional initiative coordination. Responsible for departmental operations planning/execution or is focused on execution of professional activities within a technical discipline. Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results.
The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).
The tool managers is responsible of a local team of tools leader. In his role, he:
- Translate the HEN and global operations strategy into local strategy objectives
- Interprets simple internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve processes. Stays informed of other GE businesses strategy for similar tools.
- Engineering partner, able to propose new solutions to problems and to construct and provide recommendations. Uses multiple internal and some external sources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.
- Structures his team and select qualified persons (employees and contractors) to meet the objectives
- Perform all management tasks, including supporting and coaching employees, driving improvement, and providing recognition, promoting results outside of team.
- Personally owns some tool area if / when no dedicated owner is assigned.
- Is accountable for user satisfaction for the tools he manages.
