IT Technicians are the first line support for users of hardware and software in an office environment and offshore. They are responsible for troubleshooting and fault finding to ensure that IT equipment and software downtime is minimised. In addition to this, the IT Technician will be responsible for supporting the IT network set up on any given site which requires IT functions.
Typical duties
Responds (in person or over the phone) to prioritised requests for IT support (software and hardware) from personnel (onshore and offshore)
Troubleshoots and undertakes fault finding to maintain end-user system functionality and relevant applications
Sets up and configures hardware, installs upgrades and configures IT software in onshore environments
Develops and delivers training for applications to end users
Supports the planning of office/ facilities moves to ensure continuity of availability for the company's IT systems (software and hardware)
Participates in projects and works with other IT teams or external vendors
Supports remote users in a timely and efficient manner to minimise down time
Reports damaged/ broken equipment so that replacements can be ordered
Conducts electrical safety checks on computer equipment
Monitors use of company IT systems and ensures compliance with company's IT security policies and standards
Keeps up to date with changes in relevant industry standards and statutory regulations
Reports any breaches of safety procedures to supervision / management
Actively participates in and promotes company health and safety campaigns, policies and procedures, and ensures personal safety and that of colleagues at all times
