As a Business Intelligence Engineer for Transportation Engineering Systems Team, (TESS), you will be responsible for developing, enhancing, automating and managing business models/dashboards using strong quantitative skills. You will also build tools and support structures needed to analyze data, deep dive root causes of operational issues or challenges, drive process improvements, build KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and metrics, and document systems and processes for internal publication.
TESS manages transportation network configuration by working with different internal stakeholders and systems, to deliver desired business outcomes. We work at the intersection of business and systems. Your work will directly influence the decisions and strategy of TESS by gathering customer needs and insights, mining large and diverse data sets. You will work with business leaders, their teams, and their various stakeholders to track various business goals and initiatives. The ideal candidate is a natural self-starter who is comfortable working within a cross functional environment, supporting multiple stakeholders and initiatives. You will have a true hands-on approach, strong analytical skills, including the ability to gain true insights from data, and be an effective communicator.
. Collect, identify, and prioritize analytical problem statements to ensure the BI team works on the highest impact projects and earn stakeholder trust.
. Own the design, development, maintenance of ongoing metrics, reports, analysis, dashboards, etc. to drive key business decisions.
. Propose, define and align leaders on the right metrics to track business performance and own end-to-end production of these metrics.
. Formulate analytical business problem statements, executing the analysis and presenting insights in crisp business language.
. Develop clear communications for recommended actions.
. Establish new, scalable, efficient, automated processes for tracking and reporting on progress of initiatives. This includes causal analysis on program launches and its impact on the business.
. Development of the overall program strategy, tactically driving teams in and outside of your organization to deliver
. Define the program (mission, vision, tenets), set objectives, analyze data and drive improvements that are quantified with metrics
. Work autonomously in an ambiguous environment, seeking to understand business problems, automation limitations, scaling factors, boundary conditions and reasons behind leadership decisions
. Partner with teams across the business you support and beyond to source, allocate, and coordinate resources
. Partner with customers, internal/external teams, and engineering teams to determine what projects move forward and in what priority order
. Oversee gaps between teams, processes and systems, helping teams reduce exposure to classic failure modes (e.g., requirements not sufficiently understood or documented, ineffective cross-team collaboration, long-term impact(s) from third-party solutions, security not considered, insufficient stakeholder review, etc.)
. Solve ambiguous problems and proactively identify and mitigate risks (before they become roadblocks)
. Work with program managers, business owners and leadership impacting critical business initiatives
. Develop, implement, and govern KPI reporting for a portfolio of programs, providing visibility to the milestones, and performance across all projects
. Engage other Amazon business units globally to share best practices and improve end to end outcomes for Amazon customers
. Roll up your sleeves and do whatever is necessary general manager / owner mentality
Basic Qualifications :
. Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Transportation Logistics, or related field
. 5-7+ years of professional experience in statistical analysis, data modeling, and data mining
. Significant Experience in SQL and relational database systems
. Proficiency in Tableau, PowerBI, or another advanced data visualization and/or dashboard tool
. Knowledge of data warehousing concepts
. Written and verbal skills to effectively communicate to both business and technical teams, including defining business requirements and conveying key insights from complex analysis
. Ability to work with shifting deadlines in a fast paced environment
. Demonstrated ability to draw insights from data and clearly communicate them to both business and technical teams
. Demonstrated experience owning the design, implementation, and optimization of initiatives
. Experience using Microsoft Excel including pivot tables, macros, index/match, vlookup, VBA, data links, etc.
. Experience with analytical tools such as Tableau or Microsoft Access
Preferred Qualifications :
. Advanced degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or other quantitative field
. Expert in SQL and relational database systems
. Experience using R, Python etc.
. Experience using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex data sets
. Self-driven, showing ability to deliver on ambiguous projects with limited data
. MBA/MS and work experience in dedicated project management highly desired
. Practical application of program management methodology including PMP/Lean Six Sigma/Kaizen
. Advanced knowledge of analytical tools such as SQL, Tableau, MS Excel, or Microsoft Access
. Demonstrated ability working in an ambiguous environment
. Experience handling changing priorities and using good judgment when working in stressful situations
. Demonstrated experience and proficiency in effective communication of goals and strategies across multiple leadership levels of an organization
. Proven ability to influence internal/external stakeholders without authority to adopt new processes/initiatives
. Executive level written and oral communication skills
. High attention to detail including proven ability to manage multiple competing projects and priorities simultaneously
