Data Scientist: Enterprise Data Lake

Enterpriser Data Lake is a newly formed organization under the Technology Platforms & Experience organization. Its vision is to be the single authoritative source of data for all PayPal and enable our internal and external customers with enterprise product data at lower cost and high quality. To see this vision through, the team will be building this platform on the cloud in close partnership with several key stakeholders across PayPal Inc including product, finance, risk, compliance, governance and strategy teams. We are looking for people with a passion and curiosity to solve customer problems with data.
We are seeking highly talented and experienced Data Scientist to develop and deploy statistical and m/c learning models at scale to create high quality enterprise data lake. You will be working very closely with data analysts, product & engineering, business units and Governance teams.

Justification

To deliver on data science solutions that support outstanding customer experiences with high quality data on the enterprise data lake

Responsibilities Include:

  • Working with partners to translate data quality challenges into data science problems
  • Mine and analyze massive amount of data to gain insights on data patterns.
  • Design, develop and maintain data science solutions and scoring models to detect patterns, insights and anomalies with data on the lake leveraging advanced statistical techniques and m/c learning algorithms such as regressions, neural networks, decision trees, etc.
  • Exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results that are impactful to business.
  • Develop and implement tools and automation processes to improve the overall efficiency of delivery of data science solutions.
  • Establish robust processes to ensure the accuracy, stability, reproducibility, and overall quality of all data, algorithms, and the results they produce.
  • Pro-active response in identifying and troubleshooting integration or technical issues
  • Look for improvement and innovation opportunities to provide a source of high-quality ideas.
  • Understand the current methodology and provide thought leadership by discovering new ways to improve the overall effectiveness of enterprise data lake quality using data science techniques
  • Represent data science in product and engineering design sessions. Collaborate on key architectural decisions and design considerations
  • Great verbal, communication and follow through skills.
  • Good team player, able to effectively work across multiple teams on solutions that have complex dependencies and requirements in a fast-paced environment.

Job Qualifications:

  • Masters or Ph.D.in Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, or similar quantitative field
  • At least 5 to 10 years of professional experience with developing models at scale
  • A true passion for data, data quality, research and a solid data science approach is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present methodologies and findings to audiences with varying technical background
  • Solid understanding of probability and statistics
  • Solid understanding of research design, A/B and test-vs-control statistical testing frameworks
  • Solid understanding of unsupervised and supervised machine learning approaches including clustering and classification techniques.
  • Experience in building Machine Learning models (GLM, SVM, Bayesian Methods, Tree Based Methods, Neural Networks)
  • Solid understanding of how to assess the quality of machine learning models including the ability to tune and optimize models and to diagnose and correct problems.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and drive projects forward in a dynamic and fast paced business environment.
  • Experienced/Advanced programmer in Scala, Python, or similar programming languages.
  • Experienced/Advanced Programmer in Spark, SQL, and Hadoop/Big Query
  • Familiarity with the fintech industry is preferred.
