An assistant project manager has a diverse skill set, as they complete many of the same duties as the project manager. This also makes a job as an assistant manager an excellent midpoint for an employee who has aspirations of higher project management positions, allowing the assistant project manager to develop their skills in a practical setting and learn from the project manager's example.

Planning and Defining Scope for Projects
Activity Planning and Sequencing of Tasks
Resource Planning for Projects
Time Estimating
Creating Charts and Schedules
Managing Risks and Issues
Monitoring and Reporting Project Progress
Team Leadership
Influencing Strategic Stakeholders
Partnering with Business, cross functional teams within the organization.
Working with Vendors
Controlling Project Delivery Quality

Skills:
Leadership & People Management
Strong Communication & Negotiating Skills
Keen Observer, Detail Oriented and Critical Thinker
PMP, Agile or Equivalent certification is a plus.
