Responsibilities

1. Main focus

• Tropical cyclone rainfall modeling using dynamical or parametric models
• Developing methodologies to facilitate the simulation of stochastic rainfall events
• Implementation of the model into unified catastrophe modelling platform
• Assistance of flood model submission to the Florida Commission on Hurricane Loss Projection Methodology for approval

2. Adaptation of tropical cyclone catastrophe model for estimates of climate change impact on insurance loss

3. Tropical cyclone vulnerability wind, flood (as needed in cooperation with colleagues with engineering background)

4. Applied research in various topics related to tropical cyclone and loss impact

Role-specific Technical Skills and Knowledge (including any educational or degree requirements, years of prior work experience, etc.)

1. Background in Meteorology/ Oceanography/ Climate Science ideally with focus on tropical cyclones. PhD/ Master s degree with research experience (projects, published papers, etc.) is required.

2. Experience with tropical cyclone related rainfall research and modeling is a plus.

3. Reasonably skilled in programming with proficiency in at least one language (R, Python, MATLAB, etc.) to be able to process large data sets and conduct research. Ability to understand existing code in various programing languages. Basic skills in spatial data analysis using ArcGIS/QGIS or any other software.
