The Team:
We are team based.
We work in an open team room: no cubicles or private offices. Communication is core to our process, and we won't be hindered by walls. Day to day we work directly with coworkers to triage, design, and solve the business's technical challenges. You will find the key to our strong team is transparency and responsibility. During the pandemic we rely on collaboration tools that allow us to communicate effectively while having fun.
We are agile.
For us, the most significant part of being agile is doing what works best for the team. Through short sprints and daily standups, we assess and adapt to new information along the way as we build. We pause for retrospectives to discuss things that are going well and opportunities for improvement.
The Role:
As the Manager of Engineering in Cloud Infrastructure for Analytics, you will set a big-picture vision and evolve how Braintree offers analytics capabilities and sustains development in existing deployments of Redshift and Airflow. You will bring your rare blend of business and technical savvy to lead the maturing of our platform service offerings and create new cutting-edge services for our product engineering and analyst teams to understand their data and cater towards automation needs that drives value for all Braintree customers, large and small. You will work with our product engineering teams to drive key strategic initiatives within Team Data, partnering with your peers in Team DB, Team Scale/Components, and Team Gateway to adopt.

Refined the roadmap for multiple components based on market understanding, partner guidance, and key developers
Made tough priority calls and trade-offs balancing available time, talent, and critical business needs
Led your Engineering to ensure they have the context they need to successfully build the improvements and innovations on the roadmap to advance towards established goals
Kept your finger on the pulse of the organization's initiatives through regular check-ins
Reviewed and updated end-to-end plans for major initiatives that ensure measurability, ongoing sustainability, and high-quality production operations
Written plans, specifications and documentation that are clear, concise, and meaningful to your teams and customers
Articulated business KPIs and driven learning and accountability using data in support of key decisions
Researched and analyzed progress towards goals to enable fast, efficient deployment of well-tested code to production
Read a Slack message from a satisfied engineer about a feature that your team shipped
Learned something new about AWS Redshift, Apache Airflow, Postgres, Kubernetes, AWS RDS, AWS Aurora, Kafka, Python, or Ruby
What we are looking for:
An energetic leader who is an engineer at heart, with 10+ years of experience in software development and 5+ years of experience as a manager
A mentor that can guide a team to be their best, and help engineers grow
Experience in one or more of the following: Python, Java, Ruby, Golang, or shell scripting
Attracting, retaining, and building top notch engineering talent
A customer champion that can work with engineers, product managers and analysts to enable their business needs
Facilitating consensus with all stakeholders on key technology decisions
Continuous improvement in productivity, quality, and team happiness
Building a culture of learning and sharing technology insights across the technology teams.
Bonus Skills:

A strong analytics and big data background
Experience building in maintaining large distributed systems on one of the major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Experience with infrastructure as code tooling such as Terraform & CloudFormation
Solid problem-solving background with knowledge of algorithms and design patterns.
Good Linux skills and understanding of operating systems
