Urology Technicians prepare patients for urological procedures; perform various catheterizations; instill medications; assist in surgery; take and develop X-rays; schedule surgical procedures; assist and instruct patients in care and maintenance of urological appliances; and maintain supplies and equipment.
Urologist duties and responsibilities
Diagnose patients' disorders related to the genitourinary organs and connected tissues
Treat patients' disorders related to the reproductive organs, urinary tracts, bladders and kidneys
Monitor the health of patients' disorders related to the genitourinary organs and connected tissues
Examine patients and assess their medical condition
Perform different medical procedures and treatments using a variety of appropriate methods
Prescribe appropriate medications
Administer and suggest different medical procedures to treat patients' disorders
Be an expert for other physicians
Refer patients to other specialists when necessary
Adhere to healthcare laws, rules and regulations
Greets patient and family in waiting room and escorts to exam room.
Identify patient using 2 identifiers (name & DOB).
Alerts patients to possible delays in visit timing.
Obtains and documents accurate vital signs, height, weight, pain level and allergies.
Ensure that pre-visit paper work has been completed.
Prior to or during the patient appointment, performs appropriate ancillary services (urinalysis) unless otherwise directed by the physician.
Obtains (verify using 2 identifiers), processes and documents results for urine specimens using the Clinitek device.
Under direction of physician sends urine specimens for culture & sensitivity or cytology (verify using 2 identifiers).
Anticipates needs of physician during the appointment, setting up special equipment, supplies and paperwork as needed for visit.
Alerts provider when the patient is ready to be seen and communicates all pertinent clinical information.
Assist patients with check-out process.
Cleans and prepares exam room for next patient
Performs virtual visit rooming duties as needed
Responds to the need to expedite processes, trying to maintain schedules and timely patient flow.
As appropriate, assists physicians with patient care during patient visits.
