Job Description

  • We are looking for an engineering manager to lead the growth of the work-orchestration platform of Uber

  • Uber is a fairly operational business
  • Considering that we operate a large number of countries and individual cities that are governed by their own regulations and compliance requirements as well as their own nuances, our core products have to be configured as well as localized to reflect the regional nuances
  • This can be from configuring and diagnosing surge pricing, to configuring safety controls, annotating pick ups and drop offs on maps as well as reflecting the right attributes to enable better routing of trips
  • To enable such workflows, we need human intelligence - from curating data, to labeling artifacts, to reviewing the work of the algorithms so we can improve them
  • The goal of the team is not just to provide those tools that enable ease of operations, but also over time to reduce the need for the human in the loop and bake in automations to continually improve the quality of our trips
  • This team is responsible for platforms that power easy task allocation and management as well as analytics
  • In addition, the team is responsible for the labeling platform that will power ML labeling, label stores so that it is seamlessly integrated into active learning frameworks

 

What the Candidate Will Do

  • Lead a top notch engineering team in building world class solutions to problems at scale
  • Guide the team technically and also coach mentor your reports to ensure a fulfilling and all round professional growth
  • Set a multi year vision for the product and take it through to execution

Basic Qualifications

  • Strong management and team development skills - ability to set roadmap and goals for a team and every one of its members, delegate intelligently, mentor engineers, deliver frequent and honest feedback, help team members grow in their careers, and deliver results
  • Good interpersonal skills, deep technical ability, and track record of successful execution
  • Experienced in team building, interviewing and hiring senior and junior engineers to grow the team

What the Candidate Will Do

  • Experience designing and implementing highly scalable, robust, and fault-tolerant services Ability to decompose sophisticated business problems into clean, extensible, performant services and systems Proven experience working collaboratively in cross-functional teams Full-stack engineering experience
