Job Description
3D designers are responsible for creating the virtual worlds we see in movies, video games, and other forms of media. They use computer software to build 3D models and environments that can be viewed on screens or through special glasses.
3D designers may work directly with clients to create custom designs or they may work within a larger team to help develop standard assets used across an entire company or organization. In either case, their work is critical to creating engaging digital experiences that people enjoy interacting with.
3D Designer Job Duties
3D designers have a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:
- Developing designs based on client specifications or company branding guidelines
- Communicating effectively with clients to gather information about their needs, preferences, and deadlines
- Updating designs as needed based on feedback from clients or other team members
- Designing models of inanimate objects such as buildings, furniture, and kitchen appliances
- Preparing technical drawings such as blueprints and sketches for construction projects
- Creating computer-generated models of three-dimensional objects or scenes by using specialized software programs such as AutoCAD or Maya
- Developing models of buildings or other structures by making drawings and calculations using computer-aided design (CAD) software applications
- Developing and designing new products for commercial use by creating prototypes and mockups using computer-aided design (CAD) software applications such as AutoCAD or Maya
- Developing concepts and drawings for interior design projects such as retail spaces, restaurants, and hotels

Develop 3D designs for new products.
Review and enhance 3D designs for existing products.
Manage documentation of both new and revised 3D designs.
Understand the project requirements and develop high quality designs accordingly.
Develop design layouts for complex projects using Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools.
Develop primary sketches and models for final selection of product designs.
Review 3D designs and provide recommendations.
Select materials, engineering standards, and generic parts for 3D product designs.
Present designs to clients and internal teams clearly.
Participate in team meetings and brainstorming sessions.
Develop product information packages including drawing specifications.
