Summary
As a member of the Cloud Center of Excellence, you are the fulcrum of collaboration between the Cloud Team and our partners. You contribute to and own distributed cloud services that enable the development, provisioning and deployment of global applications and services. You are an open, curious, team player who can work with a diverse community of technical partners and you envision and deliver solutions for our growing ecosystem of applications and services. Your excellent critical thinking skills help you understand problems and effectively develop practical, pragmatic solutions. Your entrepreneurial drive, eagerness to learn and a desire to help others empowers you to advise on architecture and implementation for new and existing projects, to advocate for our ongoing roadmap and provide clear instruction on how to utilize all the components of an orchestrated, global infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Proactively partner with the Engineering teams to champion existing and upcoming Cloud tools and systems.
Collaborate with other Pods within the Cloud Engineering team to understand ongoing and forthcoming projects.
Collaborate with all engineering teams and identify areas of improvement within the cloud infrastructure ecosystem and gather requirements based on both existing and future needs.
Create and present technical documentation about cloud infrastructure to the team and organization.
Build Internal tooling that interacts with AWS's APIs, Kubernetes APIs etc to increase developer productivity in Golang and other industry standard languages.
Design and implement monitoring, metrics and telemetry for Cloud tools and services.
Build robust, fault-tolerant, highly available and cost-effective cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform, Terra grunt and Cloudformation.
Orchestrate deployment and production pipelines and build rigorous validation of our services, tools and product, both in lab and real-world environments.
Work closely with the Principal Cloud Engineer and Architecture to improve existing tools and design new services for scalability and resilience.
Onboard new team members and mentor junior engineers in order to level the team up and develop adaptability and autonomy within the cloud team.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Minimum 5+ Years Experience as Cloud Engineer
Experience writing Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
Programming experience building scalable online services and distributed systems.
Ability to know your audience, tailor your presentation appropriately and articulately discuss ideas.
Ability to coach and mentor others on new tools and technologies.
Active, patient, engaged listener.
Ability to trouble shoot issues quickly and assess the impact and risk of potential solutions.
Strong analytical skills and ability to make thoughtful, appropriate decisions in a timely manner.
Experience writing production services from scratch.
Experience utilizing open-source development tools.
Experience with monitoring and metrics infrastructure.
Experience with the following tools and systems: AWS, Terraform, Consul, Vault, DNS, Envoy, Artifactory, Kubernetes, New Relic.
Preferred Skills
Extensive experience with AWS infrastructure and services.
Knowledge of complex distributed systems, including understanding of the pitfalls, scaling issues and patterns for resiliency and fault tolerance.
Familiarity with data structures, data stores, and the use of database systems within distributed environments.
