Job Description
- Job Purpose: The position of Product Design Engineer is to Lead development of new products with focus on product design for aluminium and associated manufacturing process changes. In close cooperation with product development teams, model and design products with design for Al and design for manufacturing concepts. Development of prototypes with in-house and external support. Engage with external vendors for developing prototypes and with Hindalcos manufacturing plants to source material for fabrication. Engage with customers to translate customer requirements into design concepts accommodating material and process requirements. Customer-Centric Product Design Work with customers to understand their product requirements, end-use applications, and specific design challenges. Develop tailored design solutions using aluminum alloys, incorporating factors like weight reduction, structural integrity, and thermal performance. Utilize advanced design software to create models and simulations that meet customer specifications and manufacturing capabilities. Apply specialized knowledge of aluminums properties, such as corrosion resistance, strength-to-weight ratio, and thermal conductivity, to create optimized product designs. Implement design-for-manufacture (DFM) techniques that facilitate cost-effective production, material efficiency, and simplified assembly. Identify manufacturing constraints and means to mitigate them with product design. Quantify the value generated for the customer upon attainment of the key technical specifications/features of the product/technology Conduct comprehensive analyses of current and emerging design trends in the automotive and other relevant industries to identify opportunities for the application of aluminium alloys Technical Expertise and support Serve as a technical advisor to customers, providing guidance on aluminum design best practices, material selection, and manufacturing processes. Support customer inquiries and troubleshooting, addressing questions related to design parameters, aluminum performance, and material compatibility. Conduct design reviews with customers to ensure all requirements are met, explaining design choices and potential trade-offs. Technical development of self and others Attend technical conferences, review technical and academic literature, attend supplier webinars, interact with experts, visit plants etc to stay abreast of technological advancements in the field of product design and associated shaping and manufacturing processes. Present research findings at forums like manthan, downstream summits etc Provide customized mentoring to team members and technical colleagues at HIC and downstream business Knowledge creation and dissemination Manages and documents the modeling and design activities to build a knowledge database of product design and applications. Document the key findings in high quality, peer reviewed, publication worthy tech memo. Document and record inventions in Invention Record and work with legal team for patent filing where applicable Present non-sensitive findings in international journals, conferences to more widely disseminate knowledge and showcase Hindalco R&D capabilities.,
