About the Role We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Aerodynamics & CFD Engineer to join our team. The role will focus on analysing and optimizing aerodynamic flow for UAV systems, both fixed-wing and rotorcraft. You will be responsible for conducting CFD analyses, flight dynamics simulations, and wind tunnel testing, providing crucial insights for the design and performance optimization of air-vehicle configurations. Responsibilities Aerodynamic Flow Analysis: Perform internal and external flow analysis of UAV systems, focusing on both fixed-wing and rotorcraft configurations. Use CFD tools (e.g., ANSYS or open-source alternatives) to analyse fluid dynamics and optimize aerodynamics. Predict and model the aerodynamic characteristics of subsonic and supersonic UAV configurations. Flight Dynamics & Stability: Conduct flight dynamics and performance analysis, focusing on the stability and control of UAVs. Apply both empirical methods and CFD results to ensure optimal performance and control. Design and Wind Tunnel Testing: Design and create build plans for wind tunnel models, ensuring alignment with aerodynamic test plans and program deliverables. Conduct wind tunnel tests, analyze test data, and validate numerical predictions to refine aerodynamic models. Develop and simplify complex surface geometries within CAD software (preferably CATIA or SolidWorks). Optimize and refine meshes for improved simulation accuracy and efficiency. Mathematical and Theoretical Expertise: Apply theoretical knowledge of fluid dynamics and solver methods to solve complex aerodynamic problems. Analyze aerodynamic loads, performance, and stability using a combination of hand calculations, CFD, and flight test data. Collaboration & Test Execution: Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure aerodynamic considerations are integrated into the overall design. Plan and execute ground tests for various wind tunnel facilities and validate models post-testing. Advanced Flow and Aero-Analysis: Focus on shape optimization, mesh refinement, and aerofoil analysis for efficient UAV design. Conduct flow analysis of wing designs, fins, and airfoil selections, with a focus on optimizing aerodynamic efficiency. Qualifications Master's or Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in aerodynamic analysis and design, specifically for subsonic and supersonic UAVs. Expertise in CFD software (ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+, or similar) to simulate fluid flow and aerodynamics. Strong background in aerodynamics, fluid dynamics, and flight dynamics for UAVs. Experience in wind tunnel testing, data processing, and test interpretation. Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks or similar), particularly for creating complex surface geometries for aerodynamic analysis. Knowledge of MATLAB, C++, and other analysis tools for simulation and post-processing. Demonstrated ability to predict and model the aerodynamic behavior of various UAV air-vehicle configurations (including supersonic, hypersonic, and rotorcraft). Proficiency in conducting aero/CFD analysis to assess aerodynamic loads, stability, performance, and control characteristics. Proficient in SolidWorks, ANSYS (Fluent, CFX, Thermal), LabVIEW, MATLAB, and C++ (optional). Exposure to advanced CAD systems and component design for flow analysis.
