- Position Summary: The Department of Surgery at [Institution Name] seeks a dynamic and dedicated Assistant Professor in General Surgery. The successful candidate will engage in a combination of clinical care, teaching, research, and service responsibilities. Key Responsibilities: Clinical Responsibilities: Provide high-quality, compassionate care to patients in the field of General Surgery. Perform surgical procedures, including but not limited to abdominal surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, endocrine surgery, and minimally invasive techniques. Participate in on-call coverage and emergencies, as required by the department. Work collaboratively with surgical teams, including residents, fellows, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals. Supervise residents and medical students during clinical rotations, ensuring proper education and training in patient care. Teaching and Mentorship: Serve as an educator for medical students, surgical residents, and fellows. Provide hands-on training and mentorship to surgical residents, including surgical technique, patient management, and professionalism. Develop and deliver lectures, workshops, and seminars related to General Surgery topics. Participate in ongoing curriculum development and the assessment of educational programs. Encourage a collaborative learning environment and foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Research and Academic Contributions: Engage in clinical or translational research in the field of General Surgery or a subspecialty. Develop research proposals and secure funding through grants or other sources. Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national/international conferences. Participate in academic meetings, presenting original research and contributing to the department's scholarly output. Collaborate with faculty and staff across disciplines to promote interdisciplinary research. Service and Institutional Responsibilities: Contribute to departmental committees, such as curriculum development, clinical governance, or quality improvement initiatives. Participate in institutional service activities, including hospital committees, patient safety initiatives, and outreach programs. Maintain professional standing and credentials required for the role, including licensure, certification, and continuing medical education (CME). Represent the department in local, regional, and national professional organizations. Qualifications: Education/Experience: MBBS + MS/M.D or equivalent medical degree required. Completion of an accredited General Surgery residency program.
