    Tree R&D Research Manager, India Location: India (pref. Ranchi, Kolkata, Coimbatore, or North East India) Overview: Our client is a fast-growing food and agriculture company, headquartered in California, with operations in the USA India, Australia and more locations. Our Client partners with farmers and communities around the world to harvest and grow trees, a regenerative, permanent tree crop historically used in Asia for landscape plantings, agroforestry and reforestation. Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced R&D Research Manager to lead and execute research projects focused on enhancing plant genetics, quality, and reproductive biology. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in plant science, experimental design, and data analysis, with a passion for driving innovation in horticultural practices. This role falls within Our Client's Trees and Impact Group, led by the Chief Commercialization Officer, who oversees and facilitates global activities. This position reports to the Vice President of Tree R&D, with additional guidance from the CCO. These administrative relationships will facilitate strong technical and commercial ties to Our Client's USA-based Tree Operations, as well as other global units. Responsibilities: Project Planning and Management: Develop and implement comprehensive research plans for projects related to plant genetics, quality, reproductive biology, and horticultural management. Define project scope, objectives, timelines, and budgets. Oversee project execution, ensuring adherence to timelines and quality standards. Field Trial Design and Execution: Design and implement field trials to evaluate clonal varieties, growing practices, and other factors affecting plant performance. Collect and analyze data on plant growth, yield, quality, and other relevant traits. Implement appropriate experimental designs and statistical methods to ensure data accuracy and reliability. Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze research data using statistical software and tools. Interpret results and draw meaningful conclusions to guide research direction and decision-making. Prepare clear and concise research reports, presentations, and publications to communicate findings to stakeholders and the scientific community. Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate effectively with internal teams, external growers, and other stakeholders to align research priorities and share knowledge. Build and maintain strong relationships with external research partners, universities, and industry organizations. Stay abreast of the latest advancements in plant science and horticultural practices through literature reviews, conferences, and networking. Team Leadership and Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior research staff and technicians. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that encourages innovation and scientific excellence. Travel to remote locations: Frequently visit remote rural locations to manage and complete project activities Qualifications: Education: PhD in Plant Science, Horticulture, Genetics, or a related field. Experience: 10+ years of experience in agricultural research, with a focus on plant breeding, genetics, or horticultural management. Comparable experience in a related field (e.g. forestry) will also be considered. Experience must include the management of staff or lab/graduate student management. Skills: Strong understanding of plant physiology, genetics, and reproductive biology. Expertise in experimental design, data analysis, and statistical modeling. Proficiency in using relevant research software and tools. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
