The CFD Research Group at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Chennai, invites applications for a PhD research position in Computational Fluid Dynamics and Machine Learning modeling for investigating the thermal performance of nanofluids. The research focuses on enhancing heat transfer efficiency using nanofluids by exploring multiphase turbulent modeling, nanoparticle shape effects, and novel approaches in nanofluid heat transfer. The project involves CFD simulations to analyze fluid flow, convective heat transfer, and nanoparticle dispersion, while ML techniques will be employed to optimize performance under varying operating conditions. The candidate will work on high-fidelity CFD models coupled with data-driven ML frameworks to predict and enhance heat transfer characteristics for applications in thermal management, energy systems, and cooling technologies. Eligibility and Fellowship Details: This position is funded by the institute under a research fellowship program and the position is open to both Masters and also Bachelors degree holders Masters degree (M.Tech/M.E/M.Sc) in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or a related field (e.g., Applied Mathematics). Bachelors degree (B.Tech/B.E) in Mechanical, Aeronautical, or Automobile Engineering. The following are the fellowship details and research support options: Masters degree holders: Fellowship of 31,000 per month for the first year, increasing to 35,000 per month for the second and third years (total duration: three years). Bachelors degree holders: Fellowship of 21,000 per month for the first two years, increasing to 30,000 per month for the third and fourth years (total duration: four years). In addition, the institute offers a Raman Research Award of up to 1 lakh for high-quality research publications and funding support for conference presentations and journal publications. Preferred Skills: Experience with CFD tools (ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM). Proficiency in MATLAB, C and Python programming. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
