The candidate will be responsible for the design, calculation, integration, and validation of braking systems. A strong understanding of pneumatic braking systems, braking force calculations, and international standards like FMVSS, ECE, and SAE is essential. Additionally, the role requires expertise in hoses, connectors, pipes, and pipe routings, along with proficiency in testing methodologies. Key Responsibilities: Braking System Design and Development: Design and perform detailed calculations for braking systems to ensure optimal performance and safety. Develop braking system layouts, ensuring compatibility with the vehicles chassis and overall architecture. Integration and Validation: Integrate braking systems into the vehicle, ensuring seamless compatibility with other systems. Validate braking systems through simulations, vehicle-level testing, and compliance checks. Pneumatic Braking Expertise: Lead the design and optimization of pneumatic braking systems, including air compressors, valves, actuators, and reservoirs. Address challenges related to air pressure distribution, response times, and durability. Braking Force Calculations: Perform braking force distribution analysis to optimize stopping performance and maintain vehicle stability. Evaluate load transfer, axle weight distribution, and emergency braking scenarios. System Knowledge and Component Design: Demonstrate detailed knowledge of different braking systems, including disc, drum, ABS, and EBS. Design and route hoses, connectors, and pipes while ensuring ease of manufacturability and serviceability. Compliance with Standards: Ensure braking systems meet FMVSS, ECE, and SAE standards for performance, safety, and reliability. Document and validate designs to ensure adherence to international and regional regulations. Testing and Validation: Develop and execute test plans for braking systems, including static, dynamic, and endurance testing. Analyze test data to identify issues and recommend design improvements. Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed technical documentation, including design reports, validation reports, and compliance documentation. Provide regular updates to the Engineering Manager on project status, challenges, and solutions. Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including chassis design, body engineering, and vehicle dynamics, to ensure system integration. Coordinate with suppliers for component development, prototyping, and testing. Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on advancements in braking technologies, materials, and testing methodologies. Propose innovative solutions to enhance system performance, safety, and cost-efficiency. Required Qualifications: Education: Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field. Experience: 5+ years of experience in braking system design, integration, and validation, preferably in buses or commercial vehicles. Proven expertise in pneumatic braking systems. Technical Skills: Strong understanding of braking system components such as air compressors, actuators, valves, hoses, connectors, and pipes. Proficiency in braking force calculations and testing methodologies. Familiarity with FMVSS, ECE, and SAE requirements for braking systems. Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., Creo, Catia) for system design and integration. Experience with testing protocols and equipment for braking system validation.
