Application Enablement standards group (3GPP SA6) will be focusing on key enablers and services for monetization, and developer facing technologies. We are looking for engineers with deep passion and good technical understanding of wireless communications architecture and services, and skills that are required for global technical standards development. About the job: The Standards Engineer will be working with the SRI-B Standards team. The individual shall be responsible for services/application enabler layer architecture and protocol aspects related to emerging communication standards, and will be contributing to global forums (e.g. in 3GPP, GSMA) for the development of new 3GPP application enablement and verticals (e.g., Metaverse, XR, Satellite, Sensing, IoT, AIML, Edge computing, exposure of 3GPP capabilities, energy, mission critical services, etc.). The candidate should be technically capable of formulating and articulating Samsung position towards standardization of technologies for the mobile specific architecture and protocol specifications. The candidate will lead the definition, evolution and maintenance of application layer standards, and the ability to quickly establish relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders (both internal and external) in essential. In this position, it will be required to work closely with our local and global Business Units (BUs), Operators, and industry associations, to drive Samsungs global objectives & strategy in Stage 2 and Stage 3 phases of 3GPP Application Layer Standards. Key Responsibilities Responsible for developing overall application enabler layer standards (both core network and terminal aspects) including requirements analysis, architecture and development of technical specifications emerging wireless communications standards e.g. 5G Advanced, 6G. Responsible for researching new application layer aspects for industry verticals and service frameworks e.g. Metaverse, XR, Satellite, Sensing, IoT, AIML, Edge computing, exposure of 3GPP capabilities, API frameworks, energy, mission critical services, etc. Responsible for representing Samsung in Standards Development Organizations (SDOs) such as 3GPP SA6/CT1/CT3 working groups (via conference calls, email discussions, and F2F meetings), including preparation of technical contributions Close interaction with cross-teams within the organization to align emerging standards with internal product roadmaps Work with relevant groups from other SDOs (e.g. GSMA, ETSI) to harmonize the development of standards Prototyping and simulation support when needed Ability to develop research articles and whitepapers that intersect ongoing technology developments related to business and standards domains Required Skills/Attributes At least 4-8 years of experience and knowledge in 3GPP services and related protocol aspects, with good understanding of application enabler layer standards e.g. Metaverse, XR, Satellite, IoT, AIML, Edge computing, exposure of 3GPP capabilities, API framework, mission critical, etc. Strong background on mobile application protocols (including API programming tools and languages) and underlying technology stacks e.g. SIP/IMS, MSRP, HTTP, Python and developing RESTful APIs (terminal and network); Good understanding of 3GPP defined system and core network concepts (e.g. IMS, EPS/5GS, ProSe, 5BMS, Slicing, NTN, private networks, OAM); At least 3 years of experience in research activities and filing patents; Prior experience in preparing technical standards contributions, and presenting conference papers will be a plus; Excellent communication and presentation skills, with good negotiation and problem-solving abilities; Masters of Science/Engineering or PhD is preferred; Must be able to travel frequently (at least 5 international travels per year) #5G #6G #Openings #Hiring #SamsungResearch, #Standards "Samsung/SRI-B has a strict policy on trade secrets.
