- Overview The PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) plays a critical role in managing and maintaining the organization's PostgreSQL database systems. This position is essential for ensuring the availability, performance, and security of data, which are foundational to the success of various business operations. The DBA will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing database solutions, along with tracking changes in database structure and configuration. As data continues to grow in both volume and significance, the role of the PostgreSQL DBA becomes increasingly important in fostering data-driven decision-making. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, with a keen eye for problem-solving and a proactive attitude towards database management. Additionally, they will work closely with other IT teams to provide excellent support for development initiatives and will be instrumental in building scalable and robust database architectures. This role not only requires strong technical skills but also requires effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams. Key Responsibilities Install, configure, and upgrade PostgreSQL databases. Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply patches. Ensure data integrity through backup and recovery mechanisms. Develop and implement database security measures. Design, create, and maintain SQL scripts for data analysis and reporting. Collaborate with application developers to optimize database queries. Configure and manage database replication for high availability. Perform routine maintenance and modifications as necessary. Estimate database resource requirements and plan capacity. Manage user access and permissions to maintain security compliance. Troubleshoot database issues and provide timely resolutions. Document database architecture and procedures for management. Prepare and maintain database performance reports. Participate in database disaster recovery planning. Stay updated on database technologies and best practices. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field. 3+ years of experience as a PostgreSQL DBA or similar role. In-depth understanding of database architecture and design. Expertise in writing complex SQL queries and stored procedures. Experience with database backup and recovery processes. Knowledge of database performance tuning techniques. Familiarity with PostgreSQL replication and clustering. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Experience with cloud databases and services. Basic understanding of Linux or Unix operating systems. Effective communication and collaboration abilities. Knowledge of database security standards and compliance. Experience with monitoring tools such as pgAdmin, Nagios. A certification in PostgreSQL or Database Administration is a plus. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
