Cloud Engineer (AWS & Java) @ Optum

Job Description

Job Overview: We are looking for a talented and motivated Cloud Engineer with expertise in Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Java to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining cloud-based solutions while ensuring scalability, security, and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the design and implementation of cloud architecture solutions using AWS services.
• Develop, test, deploy, and maintain Java-based applications.
• Support the automation of cloud infrastructure provisioning and management using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
• Monitor system performance and assist in identifying issues to optimize the cloud environment.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements and develop solutions.
• Ensure compliance with security best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.

Required Skills:

• Experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPCs, IAM, CloudFormation/Terraform.
• Proficiency in Java programming language.
• Understanding of microservices architecture and RESTful APIs.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins or GitLab CI/CD.
• Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes/ECS/EKS.
• Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with serverless computing frameworks (e.g., AWS Lambda).
• Proficiency in additional programming languages such as Java Spring Boot and React.
• Knowledge of database technologies including NoSQL databases like DynamoDB or MongoDB.
• Understanding of networking concepts including DNS, TCP/IP, VPNs.
• Experience with Kafka streaming.

Optional Skills:

• Certification in AWS (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect).
• Experience with logging/monitoring tools like ELK stack or Prometheus/Grafana.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
• Minimum 5 years of experience in cloud engineering or a related role

Soft Skills:

• Strong problem-solving abilities
• Effective communication skills
• Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
