Job Description

The Senior Cloud Operations Engineer is a key member of the team responsible for the operations, maintenance and monitoring of TraceLink?s cloud-based software providing track and track services to the pharmaceutical and other industries. Operating entirely in the Amazon Web Services cloud, TraceLink?s Life Sciences Cloud is comprised of Linux servers, java services and docker containers. Building off a strong background in Linux, this Senior Engineer will manage systems, develop scripts and create tools to keep Tracelink?s SaaS products running at peak performance. Serving as an agent in the Cloud Operations ticketing system, this Senior Engineer responds to requests for system configuration, user access and troubleshooting issues that occur within all LSC environments from Development to Production.

Create and implement solutions to complex technical problems affecting TraceLink?s J2EE and AWS based cloud platform, including the monitoring and management of systems and application health, security, performance, and metrics, as well as the implementation of any tools/scripts required support this task
Recommend, advocate for, and implement improvements to Cloud monitoring and alerting systems to detect and resolve performance-impacting issues
Monitor and support AWS EC2 instances, volumes and other services such ELB, S3, RDS, Elasticache, Redshift, DynamoDB and ECS containers through their entire lifecycle supporting multiple customer-facing and internal application environments
Develop advanced tools to ensure that the organization's services (internally critical and/or externally visible systems) have reliability and uptime appropriate to users' needs
Design, implement, and maintain processes and systems that increase efficiency, eliminate downtime, and maintain performance at scale across platforms
Participate in an on-call rotation during business hours to respond to and address any system, application, or network issues that may arise
Operate as an Agent in the Cloud Operations ticketing system. This includes performing service configurations, providing logs, answering questions, and carrying out periodic maintenance tasks
Carry out complex projects including building, managing and documenting systems and environments
Train and mentor junior team members on procedures, processes and best practices
Communicate with all parts of the TraceLink organization, in both verbal and written capacities
Assist personnel from other departments in the company to ensure that they have the access and information that they need to perform their assigned tasks
5-7 years of hands-on operational experience supporting J2EE web applications in a SaaS environment. Experience supporting other web application server technologies and 1-2 years of J2EE will be considered
3 years of experience designing, building and supporting modern agent-based logging systems such as ELK, TICK and/or Splunk including integrating data sources and managing data collection agents
Possess a strong background in Linux/Unix systems administration including OS deployment, package management, user administration, networking, NTP, DNS and advanced troubleshooting
A solid foundation in virtualization through the use of AWS EC2, VMWare, Xen, virtual box, etc.
Programming: Python scripting skills with experience in at least one common Linux shell scripting language (BASH, SH, CSH, KSH)
Tools: Experience with 3 or more of the following: Apache, nginx, haproxy clamav, rsyslogd, puppet/chef, SSH/SFTP, vi/vim/nano editors and related technologies
Familiarity with Amazon ECS and/or Docker containers and their operation, support, maintenance, etc.
1-2 years hands-on experience with Amazon?s EC2 (and related) API and CLI a strong plus
BS (or equivalent) Computer Science or related discipline
