Nursing jobs for the Global Learners Programme in England
The UK National Health Service (NHS) was founded in 1948, employs 1.7 million people and provides government-funded medical and health care services for those living in the UK which is free at the point of delivery. Health Education England (HEE) supports the delivery of high-quality patient care in England through its role in educating, training and developing the health workforce.
HEE facilitates the Global Learners Programme (GLP) for professionals to work and learn in the NHS. The GLP is the only UK government approved international recruitment programme for nurses working with NHS hospitals across England. We are committed to ensuring ethical recruitment practices operate within the NHS through adherence to the UK Code of Practice (CoP) for international recruitment.

HEE supports professionals through their preparation for language and competency tests; entry onto the UK professional register; visa application, and through a comprehensive programme of pastoral care, including cultural sensitivities, prior to and on arrival.
We are working with a number of NHS Trusts to offer placement opportunities, and we are eager to hear from registered healthcare professionals who would like to work in the NHS.
The GLP provides an opportunity to enhance and add to your existing skills whilst working in the NHS; gaining new skills, knowledge and experience. The programme is a Earn, Learn & Return scheme, nurses will work on a tier 2 working visa sponsored by an NHS employer.
Entry Criteria
- IELTS (International English Language Testing System) qualifications of level 7 + 6.5 in writing OR OETs (Occupational English Test) at grade B and above and C+ in writing.
- A minimum of 6 months experience practising as a registered Nurse
- Registered with a Nursing body in India
- Nursing degreeWillingness to relocate to the UK
Package
- Flight to the UK paid by the hospital
- Met at the airport by a member of staff from the hospital
- Three months paid accommodation (either onsite or close to the hospital) and settling in package on arrival
- Certificate of Sponsorship paid by the hospital
- First OSCE (Objective structured clinical examination) and travel to the exam centre paid by the hospital (resits are paid by the nurse)
- Mentor will be on hand to support the nurse with orientation, local places of interest
- Starting salary 18,813 rising to 24,214 upon receipt of NMC (Nursing Midwifery Council) PIN Number
- 37.5 hours per week contract of employment, opportunity to work extra hours may be possible
- 27 days paid annual leave plus 8 statutory public holidays
- Opportunity to join the NHS pension scheme
- Paid sick leave entitlement if you are ill/unwell
