Database Advisor General Summary: Candidate will be responsible for creating cutting-edge Data platforms on Azure Cloud to improve the customer and operational experience. Candidate will have the opportunity to lead the paradigm shift for developing intelligent systems on cutting-edge FedEx technology including Big Data Streaming Machine and Deep learning. The candidate will provide the leadership and direction for development of enterprise solutions. This position will be responsible for: Manage Azure Data stores including Data Lake (ADLS Gen2), Cosmos DB and Synapse Data warehouse for Tier 1, Tier 2 applications RBAC (Role based Access Control) to ensure data access is controlled using FedEx on-prem standards / tooling (IMAGE, Privileged access, Users / Service Accounts / Groups management) Manage Data Lake structures to ensure alignment / rationalization with Enterprise Atlas (Data Lake) Create and Manage data lifecycle Retention archival and data purge strategy (Hot. Warm, Cold data stores) Ensure data encryption based on InfoSec standards (TLS1.2) Enable and enforce Data Privacy and sovereignty standards for Global and Sensitive data Enable Data Governance using Data Cataloging, modeling and standardized naming / definitions Database Failover, redundancy, backup and recovery strategy to support Tier 1 applications perform operational tasks such as monitoring and logging, responding to usage thresholds, performing data consistency checks, and management of backup and restore including geo redundant backups and long term storage Diagnoses and troubleshoots database errors or application errors. Performance tuning and optimization of database queries and systems Works with information security to keep our data secure Works with data architects and data engineers to continually improve our data systems Skills & Experience Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems, and Overall 12+ Years of IT experience or related field and 6 years of relevant experience. Database administration, management maintenance, security, and performance tuning of Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and other databases throughout the development and production lifecycles in an on-premise, Azure cloud. Skills / Knowledge Considered a Plus: Excellent verbal and written communication skills Must be able to demonstrate a strong understanding in the following areas: Administration of Database platforms such as SQL Server, Synapse, Cosmos, Postgres, Oracle Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL Databases; MS SQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MySQL, and Cosmos DB Experience configuring and administering Databases in cloud Experience in user training, resolving day to day issues and coordination with software vendor technical support Experience working in a modern cloud-based environment a plus; Azure, Oracle, Docker, Kubernetes. Data Warehouse Experience with scripting: PowerShell, Bash, Python, batch files, etc Proficiency with Linux & Windows Operating Systems Solid understanding of Data warehousing theory and concepts Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists Basic understanding of and willingness to learn and adopt professional and industry standards Customer service driven Strong team player
