Rabies still kills one child every 30 minutes in India. This role will be responsible for creating and delivering awareness and education campaigns to reduce rabies deaths in Kerala State/Mumbai city/Bangalore city. You will be working for Mission Rabies, a project of the international animal welfare charity, Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS). Mission Rabies has vaccinated 2 million dogs and educated over 7 million children on rabies prevention since 2013. Mission Rabies started in Goa, which became the first state in India to achieve rabies controlled status in 2021. No child has died from rabies in Goa since 2016. We want to build on that success and save lives nationwide.
Based in Thiruvananthapuram or Mumbai city or Bangalore city, you will be working under the direction of the Indian Education Director based in Goa. You will develop campaigns across multiple channels to raise awareness of the disease, increase vaccination coverage and share information that can save lives.
Importantly, you will also ensure that our key partners in Kerala/Mumbai city and Bangalore city feel engaged. Your role will build long term commitment and inspire them to do more to support champion rabies elimination in the state and across India.
This is a new role and offers a great opportunity for the right candidate. There will be opportunity to grow and develop within this role, working with the wider team to help develop your skills and build experience. We need someone who is ambitious, driven and wants the opportunity to grow their own programme of work.
This is a full-time role. More than Rabies Control, at Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS) we champion animal welfare around the world. We send vets where they are needed most, provide expert veterinary training in hard-to-reach places, and ship urgent aid supplies worldwide, every day of the year.
We deploy teams of vets and vet nurses, send equipment and supplies to help struggling organisations on the front line of animal welfare, and train vets at our international training centres in India, Thailand, Malawi and the Galpagos Islands. We also work on strategic one health projects such as rabies elimination campaigns with Governments and NGOs all over the world.
Last year, WVS treated over 62,000 animals, trained over 1,000 vets, deployed teams of vets all over the world, and sent over 450 parcels of veterinary supplies to 175 charities in 70 countries.
